Carbon Footprint and Digital Solutions Seminar at GTÜ

A seminar at Gebze Technical University brought Environmental Engineering students together with ETHIC AŞ experts to discuss how corporate carbon emissions are calculated and reported. The session introduced the CO₂ Manager software and its automated calculation, monitoring and reporting features.

At a time when environmental awareness is growing worldwide, the knowledge bridges built between universities and the private sector matter more than ever. With this in mind, the seminar held on Tuesday, 20 May 2025 at the Gebze Technical University (GTÜ) Department of Environmental Engineering stood out as a valuable event that encouraged sustainability-focused thinking and brought aspiring young engineers together with industry.

The event was organized by Ethic Metal Geri Dönüşüm San. ve Tic. A.Ş., a company guided by a strong sense of environmental responsibility and committed to integrating the opportunities of digitalization into environmental management processes. Speaking at the seminar, MSc Environmental Engineers Utku Korkmaz and Elçin Genç shared comprehensive insights with participants on how carbon emissions are calculated and reported at the corporate level.

The seminar, which drew strong attendance from third- and fourth-year Environmental Engineering students as well as faculty members of the department, examined in detail the contribution of digital transformation to environmental management. The speakers emphasized that, in order to meet their sustainability targets today, companies need not only environmental awareness but also measurable data management that complies with recognized standards. Within this framework, the CO₂ Manager software, which is aligned with international standards, was introduced. Its automated calculation, monitoring and reporting capabilities attracted considerable interest from the audience.

Throughout the event, the questions and comments raised by the students clearly demonstrated the interest of aspiring young engineers in environmental issues and their motivation to learn about technological solutions. The speakers also presented examples from real-world field applications in the industry, giving students the opportunity to reinforce their academic knowledge with practical experience.

At the close of the event, thanks were extended to the GTÜ Department of Environmental Engineering and to Department Head Nihal Bektaş for their sincere hospitality. Once again, it became clear that events of this kind, carried out in cooperation with universities, deliver not only an exchange of knowledge but also the transfer of a culture of environmental awareness to younger generations.

As Ethic Metal Geri Dönüşüm San. ve Tic. A.Ş., we were delighted to sit down with the environmental engineers of tomorrow and exchange knowledge with them. In the period ahead, we aim to further strengthen our engagement with universities through similar seminars and collaborations. We believe in the power of sharing knowledge for a sustainable future.
